Veneralia 2012 at the Michael C. Carlos Museum draws its inspiration from the upcoming fall exhibition, "For I am the Black Jaguar": Shamanic Visionary Experience in Ancient American Art. This title, based on a quote from a contemporary traditional Taulipang shaman, "Call upon me for I am the black jaguar...," conveys the most pervasive shamanic visionary experience of becoming a powerful animal, the black jaguar in particular.
