This is our Escape Issue. What are your must-visit spots for locals exploring their city?
Check out Bix (@bixsf). It’s tucked down an alley in Jackson Square. It oozes old-school charm—with a twist of Gold Rush history. On Tuesday through Thursday nights, jazz legend Mary Stallings (@themarystallings) takes the mic. She’s shared the bill with Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett, performed with Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie, and continues to tour the world’s top jazz halls.
What about Napa, where you live?
Cordeiro’s Steakhouse (@cordeirossteakhouse) is a true gem. Many of the waitstaff have worked together for over 20 years, which shows in the impeccable, attentive service that’s increasingly rare. Their tableside Caesar salad is a performance—prepared right before you. It’s the kind of place where every detail is intentional.
What’s your perfect one-day itinerary for a first-time visitor to SF?
We’d start with coffee from Blue Bottle (@bluebottle), preferably the Ferry Building (@ferrybuilding). I’d grab food at Nopalito (nopalitosf.com)—totopos with extra crema are a must. I’d also visit the Tonga Room (@tongaroom) at the Fairmont (@fairmontsanfrancisco). Think tiki drinks, rainstorms inside and a floating bandstand.
Your perfect weekend in Napa?
Start the day with brunch at Bear (@bearnapa), the serene restaurant at Stanly Ranch. From there, it’s off to Buena Vista Winery (buenavistawinery.com). Beyond the beautiful grounds, the real treat is the history. Pro tip: ask to see the Champagne Room—it’s worth it. From there, don’t miss the Donum Estate (@donumestate) for wine and outdoor sculpture walks. Ride the iconic gondola at Sterling Vineyards (sterlingvineyards.com), and head to Scala (@scala.osteria) for dinner. Finish the day at Folklore (@folklorenapa), a vinyl-filled cocktail lounge where you can sip something inventive, listen to records and maybe even take one home.
