The New York Academy of Art held its annual Summer Drawing Party on August 11, 2022 at The Pridwin Hotel & Cottages in Shelter Island hosted by Brooke Shields & Chris Henchy, Alissa Friedman & Glenn Petry, Colleen Bashaw & Bruce Bohuny, Curtis Bashaw, and Simon Doonan & Jonathan Adler. The Pridwin Hotel & Cottages, long owned by Petry’s family, recently reopened after a long-awaited renovation in partnership with Curtis Bashaw, Cape Resorts Managing Partner. Each year, the Academy draws a crowd to a scenic Hamptons location to learn the basics of Drawing 101 from a contemporary artist. Guests, including Nicole Miller and Candace Bushnell, who’s work was a standout, took to the easel to try their hand at sketching with a demonstration by John Alexander and and interview with Reisha Perlmutter by NYAA President David Kratz. Many of those guests were so blown away by Justin Wadlington’s work that at one point a crowd formed around him. While enjoying wine courtesy of The Mascot, artists and guests, including Isabel Wilkinson — who grew up around the school and whose parents (Eileen Guggenheim and Russell Wilkinson) have been trustees of the school since she was a child — Isabel’s husband Ben Schorr, Carole Server and her husband Oliver Frankel, Alivse Orsini, and Penny Pilkington mingled and enjoyed a scenic sunset on the Peconic River. The sunset was so stunning that guests turned their attention away from the models and started drawing the landscape.
The annual event is a prelude to the Academy’s Fall Gala, Take Home a Nude, which will take place on Tuesday, October 25th at Chelsea Industrial in New York City. The even will honor the inimitable Tracey Emin. In addition to being one of the most noted artists of our time, her recent shows have celebrated the figure on a large scale. Having recently recovered from cancer, her return to New York will make this year’s Take Home a Nude an event not to miss.
