In case you don’t recognize the name, expect to see John Rutherford Seydel III’s more often. Hailing from one of Atlanta’s most prominent families, Seydel has stepped into a leadership role as Atlanta’s new director of sustainability in Mayor Kasim Reed’s office.
“This is the biggest opportunity of my life so far,” says Seydel of the position he took back in December 2016. “To be able to work in my hometown and see the direct impact on my community is a dream come true.”
A graduate of the University of Denver, Seydel has experience working as an energy specialist for the United Nations Foundation, founding the startup Revolution Nation and working with former Colorado Sen. Mark Udall and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper prior to taking the role.
