San Onofre State Beach
If you’ve heard “Surfin’ Safari” by The Beach Boys, then you’ve heard of San Onofre State Beach. Attracting millions of visitors per year, the wide stretch of sand is at the very top of San Diego County and is located along the Old Highway 101. Popular among surfers and campers alike, the beach itself has a rocky reef, sandy breaks and plenty of sea-dwelling wildlife—like whales, sea lions and dolphins.

Black’s Beach
Some of San Diego County’s best waves can be found here. Bring your A-game for big winter swells, but always exercise caution as the waves can be pretty powerful. If you choose to stay ashore, pitch an umbrella or play a game of volleyball. Either way, there’s plenty of fun to be had here.
Swami’s Beach
Located in Encinitas’ south end, Swami’s Beach is not only a spectacular surf spot, but also makes for an excellent surf-watching area. Don’t miss out on this beautiful spot located next to the iconic Hotel del Coronado. The expansive shoreline is perfect for a dog and family-friendly beach day or a romantic date for partners with its breathtaking sunset views.
Moonlight State Beach
This is the kind of beach where you’ll want to jump into the fun. Catch some rays, cast a fishing line or play a volleyball game at the nets. Views include swaying palm trees, serene waves and surfers. This is a great choice for everyone and is very accessible from the parking lot— no stairs involved!

La Jolla Cove
This gorgeous spot is the perfect place to watch the sea life. Catch a bird’s-eye view of the sea lions resting on the rocks below and search through the crystal clear tide pools if you visit during a low tide. Visit Sunny Jim’s Sea Cave for a one-of-a-kind view of the cove!
Windansea Beach
Participate in Southern California’s surf culture at this famous surfing beach. Nestled inside the rocky scenery is the historic palm-covered surf shack. Whether you catch waves or not, you have no choice but to hang loose!
Torrey Pines State Beach
With over four-and-a-half miles of beach, soak in the horizon views as you walk along the glittering sand at Torrey Pines State Beach. This beloved hot spot offers activities for both adults and children, including beach sports, fishing locations and scenic jogging routes.

Fletcher Cove Beach Park
Find a slice of paradise surrounded by looming palm trees and sandy hills. You can swim, play a quick game at the basketball court or take the little ones to the playground. In addition to the beach, there is an observation perch for those seeking a panoramic view of the coast.
Grandview Surf Beach
Looking out to the beach through framed palms, you’ll feel like you’re in a dream at this California State Park. Access this spot by a set of stairs that are located on a bluff above the ocean. The firm sand on this beach makes it perfect for a nice stroll!
