Rebecca Caton & Chris Scharff

February 6, 2016 | Ceremony: Holy Name Cathedral | Reception: Chicago Cultural Center

The couple cozies up for a riverside photo.

Rebecca poses with her bridesmaids, who looked pretty in pink in Bill Levkoff and Jim Hjelm dresses.

A Stem Above arranged hydrangeas, peonies, roses and cedar foliage in tall glass vases.

The couple’s four-tier pastel-pink cake by Elysia Root.

MITE Printing created a beautiful gilded stationery suite.

While in Cancún on separate vacations, Rebecca Caton, an emergency room physician, and Chris Scharff, an attorney, struck up a conversation and soon realized they lived just a half-mile away from each other in Chicago. Chris wasted no time and texted her from the cab as soon as he returned to Chicago, and they had their first date just a few days later. In December 2014, the two jetted off to Venice, Italy, for a romantic holiday. After the couple enjoyed a New Year’s Eve opera, dinner and a stroll to St. Mark’s Square, Chris got down on one knee as fireworks began to light up the sky.

In a beautiful Vera Wang gown and veil, Rebecca wed Chris in a Catholic ceremony at Holy Name Cathedral. After leaving the church surrounded by their friends and family waving sparklers, the newlyweds continued the celebration at the Chicago Cultural Center where they enjoyed their first dance on a circular white dance floor. Guests sipped on Champagne topped with cotton-candy lollipops while sitting amid tables adorned with majolica spray roses and white peonies.

Guests topped off their cocktails all night with a custom bourbon bar while munching on candies from apothecary jars placed throughout the ballroom. Rebecca and Chris thanked guests with Godiva chocolate favors before the new husband and wife flew off to Bora Bora.

“Having a wedding planner was a lifesaver given that we opted for a venue that gave us more flexibility,” says Rebecca. “It really did not add that much to the cost—especially in view of some discounts she was able to negotiate—but saved us so much time and headaches.”
