Amber Waves of Grain

Traditional flowers become the accents against unconventional, organic focal points.

Dried artichoke and Chinese millet stalks give the bouquet a textural, organic component. Orange ranunculus adds a seasonal splash of color to the neutral palette.

Designer and wedding planner Claudia G. de Velasco, owner of A Day to Remember, starts with color and texture. At right, a base of golden, sun-washed Chinese millet creates a canvas for vibrant orange ranunculus and dried artichoke. “Sometimes the simplest components make the most impact,” she says. For an organic shape with a casual, thrown-together feel, she added dusty miller in velvety, muted shades.
