Amberly Cox & Jordan Lake

January 28, 2012 | Crystal Ballroom At the Rice Hotel

The bride wore an Amsale ball gown from Mia Bridal Couture. Trey Gillen of Tre Spa styled her hair, which he later swept into a pony, and Jennifer Aronson Makeup gave her a glow.

First used by the bride’s grandparents in 1957 and by her parents in 1982, the couple’s cake topper got a mod makeover from her sisters, who hand-painted it and added fabric from their prom dresses.

Baylor University sweethearts, the couple exchanged vows before 300 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, a Houston landmark.

Wedding Flowers by Lisa tied a ribbon from Amberly’s cradle into her bouquet for something old. Seven bridesmaids wore Alfred Sung dresses from Now & Forever.

WHY WE LOVE IT The bride and her planner Natalie Narula Laskowski of Belle of the Ball left no detail of the monogram-friendly fête untended. Amberly embroidered in blue the names of three Army officers killed in action into her dress and wore a newly monogrammed necklace to the ivory and pink (“with a dash of glitter”) reception.

THE VENUE Held at the historic Rice Hotel’s Crystal Ballroom, where the couple’s grandmothers attended prom, the space met their specs: classic, beautiful, easy to locate with delicious food and a fun, relaxed feel.

THE DETAILS They danced to Adam Sandler’s “I Wanna Grow Old With You,” and served Sic ’Em Sours (a cocktail nod to Baylor), while 33 1/3 RPM DJs played. The newlyweds departed in her grandfather’s 1967 Mustang before moving to Sicily, where Jordan plays football for the Catania Elephants.
