As the sister of Snapchat founder and CEO Evan Spiegel, Caroline Spiegel clearly has innovation in her blood, launching her first startup—Quinn, an audio porn app geared toward women—while still a senior at Stanford. “I started Quinn in 2019 when I was a senior at Stanford University,” she shares. “I had taken time off from school to recover from an eating disorder, and, during my recovery, struggled with sexual dysfunction. When looking into solutions, I found that the FDA had approved 30-plus sexual dysfunction solutions for men and zero for women. That, coupled with the fact that women have been historically underserved by the porn industry, inspired me to try and find a new solution. We had three beta sites from 2019 to 2021—each one experimented with a different UX and content structure. In June of 2021, we launched our mobile app and subscription product.” Spiegel says that Quinn fills a clear void in the market, which clearly speaks to women, offering an alternative to the overly graphic or clinical porn content. “Quinn is somewhere in the middle—like an audio romance novel condensed into 15 minutes and designed to make you orgasm. It focuses on imagination and the nonphysical, mental aspects of sex,” she explains. Up next? “We are working on a new initiative, Quinn Originals. I can’t say much about it, but if you love romance novels or audiobooks, stay tuned!” Here, Spiegel shares her snapshot.
