The 15 th Annual Historic Home Tour, scheduled for Saturday, June 9 th from 10am-3pm, promises not to disappoint.Three uniquely different homes, along with their gardens will be open.
Visitors will love the charm of a 1945 ranch nestled in the woods. It feels like you are in the country, yet close to everything downtown Libertyville has to offer. Another home open for the tour was built in 2016. It is a modern American Tudor and is destined to be a classic. It too sits on a gorgeous wooded lot with a backyard trail that leads to the Des Plaines River trail. Built by a builder’s family, it has the amenities that everyone seeking a home on HGTV wishes they had.
Everyone passing by the large white house on St. Mary’s Rd. that had been boarded up for years and wondered what its story was, will be lucky enough to have their curiosity satisfied. This 15,000 square foot home will be open to tour. Built in 1897, it has now been thoughtfully and passionately outfitted with amazing antiques curated from all over the US, stained-glass by a Midwest artisan, an incredible saloon that was originally a chapel, and custom features that just don’t stop.
Traditionally homes on the tour have been located primarily in the downtown historic area, making it ideal for a walking tour. This year we step out of downtown with homes on East Rockland, St. Mary’s Rd, and Oak Spring Rd. We had some concerns about parking, but were assured by Lake County Sheriff’s that street parking will work for the day.
Register in advance for the bargain price of $15 per person at mainstreetlibertyville.org, or at the MainStreet office at 158 Cook St. Tickets will also be available to purchase for $20 in Cook Park on the day of the event. The keepsake tour booklet and wristband for entry into the homes will be distributed in the park beginning at 9:15am on June 9 th . After your tour, stop by O’Toole’s for $4 Mimosas to talk about your favorite things from each home. This is a MainStreet event you won’t want to miss!
