The beau monde of Chicago came out to support Shedd Aquarium’s board of trustees gala and newest exhibit, Underwater Beauty.
THE PARTY Starting the night on a joyful note, a welcoming drumline greeted guests in Shedd’s gardens, where partygoers had their first animal encounter of the evening at the Stingray Touch habitat. As participants meandered through the Oceanarium with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in hand, they also met a penguin party and performance artists. THE PEOPLE A rousing Hamilton-inspired musical performance brought the crowd to their feet to celebrate the majesty of the oceans. Event chairs Rick and Dixie Erwin joined Shedd President and CEO Bridget Coughlin in commending attendees for their generous support toward a world thriving with aquatic life. THE PINNACLE The new exhibit, Underwater Beauty, wowed guests, as did the $1.9 million raised during the evening. Post-dinner, a parade of performers kept the party going throughout the aquarium, accompanied by fascinating animal exhibits, dessert stations, a packed dance floor and even a doughnut wall for one last sweet treat to cap off a beautiful evening. -Nicole Karacic
