The YWCA celebrates 10 years of YWomen Leadership Awards and the amazing women who have shaped their communities.
THE PARTY More than 600 people attended the event to honor women whose actions, as YWCA Evanston/North Shore CEO and President Karen Singer noted, “can and do change the world.” The evening started with a cocktail hour and concluded hours later with dancing into the night in the modern, electric space of Venue One North Shore in Deerfield. THE PEOPLE Event chairs Vicky Dinges and Sue Oleari welcomed Karen Jordan of ABC 7 Chicago and Christian Farr of NBC 5 Chicago, who served as emcees and led a paddle raise that brought in more than $300,000. THE PINNACLE Filmmaker Susan Hope Engel debuted her short film highlighting how YWCA has empowered all types of women, helped families and promoted racial justice for 80 years. For this year’s event, there were no new honorees, but instead the 30 YWomen honorees from the past decade were again celebrated for their leadership. -Gretchen Sterba
