Have you ever wondered what it would be like to actually attend one of Monica Geller's dinner parties, as seen in the hit ‘90s sitcom Friends? From the fabulous dinners to the drinks, you know Monica knew how to throw a proper party and mix a great cocktail.
You have to wonder if all of that was the character or if some of that talent extended to actress Courteney Cox’s personal bar skills. Well, thanks to Cointreau, now we know for sure, because we’ve got her recipe for a strawberry margarita with spicy rim.
As part of the French orange liqueur’s Ultimate Margarita Showdown, Cox joined Emmy award-winning host Andy Cohen as well as Tony and Grammy award-winning actor, rapper, songwriter and producer Daveed Diggs to see who could design this summer’s stand-out margarita.
A little known fact: the inimitable Cointreau is at the heart of more than 500 classic cocktails, including, of course, the famed margarita. Cox learned this first-hand.

“I started cooking over the past few months,” she says, “and while I might not be the professional chef everyone thinks I am, I can absolutely mix up an amazing Margarita. Who doesn’t love Margaritas? I am obsessed with Cointreau and fresh summer strawberries and thought ‘why not make a Margarita out of this?’ That is how the strawberry margarita with spicy rim came to be!”
The official Ultimate Margarita Showdown begins later this summer and pits Cox against Cohen and Diggs, but you can upgrade your margarita recipe to surprise and delight your guests with Cox’ version by following the simple directions below.
No matter who wins, the real winner of the competition will be the restaurant industry which is still recovering from the harrowing effects of the pandemic and widespread shut downs. Cointreau committed to donate $100,000 on behalf of the winner to its longtime partner, the Independent Restaurant Coalition, a non-profit organization committed to helping the bar and restaurant community industry.
