Design is in the details, and details are part of a truly unique kitchen.
Design details are not accidents, they are intentional, well-planned and come about through communication between the homeowner and the designer. A collaborative designer will incorporate meaningful and functional details within the aesthetic the homeowner desires. These are elements that serve to make the kitchen work perfectly for the people who use it.

Each kitchen we work on exists in a unique home with different folks who want different things. From family life organization to elbow room for competing chefs, to ensuring the family pooch has their own area for meals and treats. The details that exist within those criteria also need to look beautiful and not overwhelm the space. Function and beauty need to be balanced along with the long-term outlook that these priorities may change as the family matures or the home changes hands.

One of my favorite things to do is wander through our cabinet shop and look at the work in progress. Here I bug our cabinetmakers to show me a unique detail within the project they’re working on; inevitably, there is something. Because cool details don’t exist in a design vacuum, they need to be brought to reality. This is where craftsmanship makes the difference. The ability to take a unique design element and ensure that it will function perfectly and for a lifetime. It’s not an easy task, but it’s the one we love the most.

Over the last 25 years, Jewett Farms + Co. designers have developed ideas, and our cabinet makers have made them real. We custom-make every design detail within our cabinetry, from drawer insert knife blocks to door-mounted spice racks and vented drawers specifically made for vegetable storage.

The best way to ensure that your kitchen is the perfect mix of form and function is to choose your kitchen designer wisely. Collaboration and listening are critical to blending your specific wants and needs into a seamless space that functions perfectly. And in case you were curious, JF designers are great at listening.
