The Clients

For interior designer Michael Abrams and one of his clients, what began with a serendipitous introduction has evolved into a highly successful partnership. When a family friend introduced the Greenhills to Michael Abrams Interiors back in 2015, it seemed like fate had stepped in, leading to the stunning transformation of their North Shore home. Now, that creative relationship has resulted in another exciting project: the redesign of their high-rise condo on the 51st floor of an exclusive Gold Coast building. “After a walk-through of their lakefront home in Highland Park, we hugged and knew it was kismet that we had met,” says Abrams. “We had such a successful and fun collaboration that when they purchased the condo, they were giddy with excitement that we would be working together again.”

The Project

The clients wanted a city home that replicated the luxurious environment and warmth of their Highland Park home—no small feat given that the condo was built as a modernist white box with minimal architectural details. Notes Abrams, “Two very important things were transforming the primary bathroom and capturing additional adjacent space to create an enormous primary closet.”

The Detail

“After establishing a trusting and respected working relationship, the client let us do what we do best and encouraged us to “push their limits,”” explains Abrams. “Knowing they had an appreciation for the finer things in life, we curated only the best when making presentations.” The stark white walls of the main areas of the home were were transformed with Venetian plaster and a milk finish, thanks to a collaboration with Simes Studios. Luxurious textiles and hand-made wallcoverings enhanced the bedrooms, bathrooms and study, and the foyer was given a striking entrance featuring eglomise panels and custom millwork.

The Outcome

“[The clients] were beyond thrilled with the outcome and that this new home was a true reflection of them,” shares Abrams. Adds Sean Freeman, president of Highland Park-based construction company Twenty9, Inc., who was enlisted to work on this project, “We are proud that our entire crew brought it 100% every day in every way to help create the home the clients deserved and the design team imagined.”
