With a career spanning over two decades, DJ White Shadow has collaborated with iconic artists such as Lady Gaga, Pitbull and Sia.
Grammy-winning producer, songwriter and Evanston resident Paul Edward Blair—aka DJ White Shadow (@djws)—is teaming up with comedy icon Will Ferrell to curate a star-studded concert, Will Ferrell’s Ultimate DJ House Party, benefiting Cancer for College. Here, he gives CS the scoop on the event. Oct. 26, Wintrust Arena, 200 E. Cermak Road, wintrustarena.com
Why did Will Ferrell choose Chicago for this party?
There are a couple of reasons. First, all modern electronic music has roots in the Midwest. House music originated in Chicago, while techno came from Detroit. Although many associate electronic dance music with Europe, genres like house music were born in Chicago 40 years ago, emerging from the disco scene in New York City. The party aims to celebrate this legacy and capture the inclusive spirit of those early dance parties, welcoming everyone regardless of their background. Second, Chicago is recognized globally as an important city known for its beauty and vibrant people, making it an ideal location for a great party.
What can people expect at the show?
Expect complete madness and entertainment that will leave you with a smile on your face. Some surprises are so exciting that they can’t even be announced yet.
How did you get involved?
My involvement is deeply rooted in my love for music. A mutual friend introduced Will and me, and we collaborated on an event for Cancer for College in Los Angeles last year. The success of that event inspired us to try something new focused purely on music.
How did you approach curating the lineup?
I started by calling my friends to see if they were available. Word spread quickly among interested artists and everything came together naturally. Everyone on the roster is donating their time, demonstrating the collective goodwill and support for this charitable cause.
What are you looking forward to most?
I’m excited about the event as a whole. The main goal is to raise as much money as possible for the charity, helping those in need due to health issues beyond their control. I’m also looking forward to having a great time with friends and spreading good vibes. Ultimately, the event is about keeping those positive vibes while supporting a worthwhile cause.
