Gala to honor hometown icons, the McIngvale Family

6:00 pm

Grab your boots, dust off your hat and saddle up for a boot-scootin’ good time! Mental health and the McIngvale family are the focus of Baylor College of Medicine's Texas on My Mind celebration to be held Friday, April 20, at the new Post Oak Hotel. The evening will feature dinner, dancing and musical performances by Jack Ingram, Bruce Robison and John Baumann.

The Partnership for Baylor College of Medicine is hosting the gala event to celebrate Baylor’s 75 years in Houston and raise funds to support mental health research and treatment by the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The McIngvale family, owners of Gallery Furniture, will be honored for their mental health advocacy and for their contributions to the Houston community and to Baylor.

The McIngvale Family
“The McIngvales have been so generous to the Houston community and supportive of the mental health programs at Baylor College of Medicine,” saidDr. Paul Klotman, president, CEO and executive dean of Baylor. “The Partnership has done a great job of organizing what promises to be a successful and fun event in their honor.”

The family’s kindness, compassion and generosity have been unmistakable as Houston faced Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath. In the midst of the storm, Jim McIngvale opened the doors to his furniture stores and welcomed Houstonians seeking refuge from the floodwaters that were filling up their homes. The family’s passion for helping people also has extended to Baylor as they have given generously to support the psychiatry department’s obsessive compulsive disorder research.

“We are especially pleased that we have an outstanding family as our honorees this year,” said Penny Loyd, chair of the gala along with her husband, Paul Loyd. “For all they do for Baylor and all of Houston, we are proud to be honoring the Linda and Jim McIngvale Family. The generosity of this family with their time, talent and resources is beyond compare.”

The Partnership for Baylor College of Medicine
The Partnership for Baylor College of Medicine is the College’s largest community volunteer organization.

“I am proud of The Partnership’s efforts within the Houston community, which include providing educational seminars, being advocates for the College, providing support to the students of Baylor and raising funds in support of Chair Dr. Wayne Goodman and the psychiatry department,” said Mary Fischer, president of The Partnership for Baylor. “The department’s work within the community has ranged from helping families at the main evacuation centers in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey to saying ‘no’ to the stigma of mental illness. We are excited and proud to enhance their efforts with funds from the gala.”

The Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Living with a psychiatric disorder can be difficult, but at the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine, mental health experts work tirelessly to provide compassionate, safe and effective care for people with psychiatric and co-occurring disorders. Through innovative and relevant research, experts are able to further the understanding, treatment and possible prevention of psychiatric disorders – and of all of this would not be possible without the endless support of the department’s partners.
