THE PARTY The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Art of the Islamic Worlds initiative with a black-tie gala, underwritten by Shahla and Hushang Ansary, and Jaleh and Bruce Sallee. THE SCENE After cocktails and a sneak peek of the new Bestowing Beauty: Masterpieces from Persian Lands exhibit, the crowd enjoyed a Middle Eastern-inspired dinner of baby artichokes and arugula, beef short rib, couscous and grilled salmon. A dessert bar followed while the dance floor filled with late-night revelers. THE HIGHLIGHTS Prince Amyn Muhammad and MFAH director Gary Tinterow gave remarks on cross-cultural communication and understanding before announcing a $1 million gift from the Ansarys, which tipped the night’s total amount raised to $1.6 million. Additionally, the institution added a new Islamic art panel, “Layla and Majnun,” to its permanent collection after a close ballot vote by the crowd. Art on! -Ray Dennison
