Classical music patrons celebrated an award-winning season at the Houston Symphony’s Balinese Room Ball.
THE PARTY Robin Angly and Miles Smith, along with Darrin Davis and Mario Gudmundsson, chaired this year’s Houston Symphony ball, themed for Galveston’s historic 1940s nightclub, The Balinese Room. Ann Ayre and Helen Shaffer organized the auction, which raised more than $1.33 million and featured a trip to jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels’ workshop in Paris, as well as a sojourn on an estate in the Hamptons. THE SCENE Richard Flowers of The Events Company transformed The Post Oak Hotel’s ballroom into a tropical paradise with florals and massive wall tapestries, and chef Jean-Luc Royere served herb-crusted beef tenderloin and Gulf shrimp for dinner. More than 530 guests showed up to support the organization. THE HIGHLIGHTS After the main program, New York City’s DJ Kalkutta took over for a lively afterparty with dancing and casino games. Bravo! -Ray Dennison
