Inspired by Tchaikovsky’s classic Swan Lake, Houston Ballet’s annual ball soars to new heights.
THE PARTY Despite ongoing repairs at the Wortham Theater Center, spirits couldn’t be dampened at Houston Ballet’s annual ball. More than 500 guests flocked to the Swan Lake-themed event, which raised more than $1.4 million for the troupe. THE SCENE True to the theme, Richard Flowers and The Events Company split the evening’s party tent into two separate worlds, one decked in pristine white, the other in brooding black. City Kitchen also joined in on the fun with a black-and-white menu. Crabcakes, white asparagus and Belgian endives were topped with shaved black truffles, while dessert featured chocolate ganache, white cake crumbles, an ile flottante and chocolate truffles. THE HIGHLIGHTS In the middle of the action, chair Hallie Vanderhider dazzled as the night’s siren. Wearing a dramatic black feathered gown with a massive train, she arrived arm in arm with Tootsies director Fady Armanious, but halfway through the night transformed in a bright pink gown perfect for the packed dance floor. -Ray Dennison
