Houston Symphony’s Opening Night Concert & Gala helped raise more than $750,000 for the organization’s education and community programs.
THE PARTY The Houston Symphony’s 2018-19 Opening Night Concert & Gala, chaired by Donna and Max Chapman, featured renowned pianist Yuja Wang at the opening concert at Jones Hall and welcomed more than 400 black-tie partygoers to The Corinthian. THE SCENE Courtney and Bill Toomey, Catherine and Brian James, and Joella and Steve Mach were among the mingling guests. A delicious dinner of filet mignon served with asparagus, whole baby potatoes and baguettes, provided by Jackson and Company, was paired with wine by Spec’s Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods. Later in the evening, The Royal Dukes Band took the stage and had everyone dancing into the wee hours of the morning. THE HIGHLIGHTS Jo Dee and Cliff Wright walked away with a new Steinway Spirio Model M piano signed by Yuja Wang, helping to raise more than $750,000 for the Houston Symphony’s education and community engagement programming. -Mellanie Perez
