The Wortham was at its glamorous best as more than 600 elegantly outfitted gala-goers—several in blossom-bedecked gowns inspired by the evening’s theme, Fleurs de l’Opera—filed into the foyer for the white-tie Opera Ball.
After traversing a regal red carpet, unfurled near an ivy-covered wall that made for a stunning photo op, guests of ball chair Margaret Alkek Williams admired the decor inside. Some 62,000 stems of roses, orchids, hydrangeas, apple blossoms and peonies covered every surface from centerpiece to chandelier. Champagne flowed, and Jackson Hicks provided a French-themed menu with foie gras and creme brulee.
Before dinner was served, guests were treated to performances including a “synchronized swimming” dance routine, hunks in trunks and all! And the annual afterparty, this year chaired by Heather Pray, featured a midnight breakfast. Chicken and waffles, anyone? –Photos by Daniel Ortiz and Michelle Watson
