Dozens of documentaries and indie and feature films were screened in venues across town as part of the fifth annual Houston Cinema Arts Festival. The five-day event kicked off with a viewing of Cutie and the Boxer from St. John’s School grad Zachary Heinzerling and a bash at the Museum of Fine Arts.
Throughout the city, socialites and cinema-lovers joined for receptions, like the closing-night party at the beautiful light-filled Boulevard Oaks home of Franci and Jim Crane. Filmmakers Jonas Mekas and Barbara Hammer attended, as did the director and stars of Cutie, who clinked glasses and listened to Sotheby’s chairman Jamie Niven share stories of his movie-star father, David, who once co-hosted the Academy Awards.
