Face Valueby Kelley McLaughlin | Jezebel magazine | October 1, 2011
Beauty guru Karen Filos sure knows her stuff. And on the advent of autumn, she's gathered together these tips and tricks for putting your best face forward:
TREND 1: This fall's colors are deep, dark and rich: royal blues, dark plums. To set off these saturated hues, try ditching the mascara and applying a black cake liner with a brush instead. Lightly paint your lashes black and—voilà!—you're out the door.
TREND 2: We're craving deep, smoky eyes with a royal blue twist, set off by the neutrality of a beige lip. Start with a face primer, applying it prior to foundation and concealer, then add a bit of shimmer to your cheekbones. Make sure the lids of the eyes get a dabbling of concealer, too, so the color you add on top will appear even more vibrant. And it's not just reds that need liner; when using a light-colored lipstick, you still must fill in the whole lip with a very light pencil so the pigment stays put. Want the reverse of this trend? Opt for plum lips and sultry, sheeny, silver-taupe eyes.
TREND 3: Fuller eyebrows are making a comeback, but even bushier beauties still require good grooming. Try threading instead of waxing for an adventurous new way to get your face-framing accessories in shape.
Filos' favorite beauty products of the moment are true winners. Try out her stunning selections to get the brilliant looks above:
