Bad Dog Taqueria’s barbecue pork belly taco
New Kids on the Blockby Lisa Horten | Jezebel magazine | June 1, 2011
Something to Look Forward to (Expected opening—Early August):
5 Napkin Burger
990 Piedmont Ave., 5napkinburger.com
We know what you’re thinking. The last thing Atlanta needs is another burger joint. We’ve got
our Richard Blais, our Grindhouse and, at 10pm, a lucky few even have our beloved Holeman &
Finch burger. But this is something totally different. 5 Napkin Burger already holds a coveted
crown in New York City, and now the decadent eatery is headed south. The signature burger
features 10 ounces of fresh ground chuck and is topped with rosemary aioli, caramelized onions
and melted Gruyere on a soft white roll. Not a burger fan? 5 Napkin doesn’t discriminate. The
extensive menu offers up everything from sushi to matzo ball soup and fish and chips. Needless
to say, no one’s going home hungry.
Start Making Pl ans (Expected opening—early to mid-June):
129 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, no246.com
When the chef/owner of JCT. Kitchen and Bar and the former chef de cuisine at Floataway
Cafe join forces, you know that something special is going to result. Perhaps the summer’s
most anticipated opening, no. 246, the brainchild of chefs Ford Fry and Drew Belline, promises
Italian-inspired, locally sourced eats like Meyer-lemon-and-sheep’s-milk ricotta agnolotti
with parmesan and garlicky tiny clams with toast and parsley.
While you’ll want to go for the food, you’ll want to stay to hang in the restaurant’s backyard,
which will feature an herb garden, shuffleboard courts and live music on the deck.
Open for Business (Go Today):
Bad Dog Taqueria
1579 N. Decatur Road, facebook.com/pages/bad-dog-taqueria
For crave-worthy tacos and burritos, head to the latest eatery to open its doors in Emory Village.
Bad Dog Taqueria serves up inventive handhelds—think Chickpeas in a Pod (a vegetarian
option with chickpea croquettes, avocado tahini sauce, lettuce and tomatoes) and burritos
stuffed with samosa, pork belly, brisket and more. Even the chips are a combo of yucca, plantain
and boniato. Definitely not your ordinary taco stand.
