Seeing Double

Three savvy A-Town duos with style to spare take us on the ultimate shopping spree, proving that when it comes to fashion, two is always better than one.

Cari Rene and Kay Lynn

Kay and Cari look street-style chic while laughing it up inside Jeffrey Atlanta. “All jokes aside, she’s literally my better half,” Cari says of her sister. “I don’t know where I would be without her by my side supporting me.”

Sisters Cari Rene and Kay Lynn are only two years apart, but sometimes it feels even closer. “We have a synergy that I think only sisters can have,” says Cari, the digital content creator behind @layllahstyle. Adds Kay, a master cosmetologist and owner of Kerri Alston Hair Couture (@kerrialstonhair), “We are the best shopping buddies as well.” When they aren’t collaborating as co-stylists of online vintage boutique House of Layllah (@houseoflayllah), these partners-in-crime can be found thrifting or hitting up Phipps Plaza for shoes and handbags to add to their covetable closets.

Cari on Kay
“She’s a mix master when it comes to incorporating trends with vintage and custom wear to create a balanced look,” Cari says of her younger sister. She adds that her stylish sib couldn’t live without distressed jeans, gold layered necklaces and tennis shoes—“Kay loves her a good pair of kicks,” she says—that have become staples of her signature “casually, comfortably chic” aesthetic.

Kay on Cari
“Cari’s style is very classic, clean and polished to me,” says Kay. “She is a minimalist, so she likes garments that she can interchange and wear a few different ways”—namely high-waist skinny jeans, vintage blazers and shades “even when there is no sun out,” Kay jokes. But, in true little sis form, Kay adds, “I have always followed in my big sister’s footsteps. She’s been a supercool role model.”

As co-owners of hip sunglasses shop Select Shades (@selectshadesatl)—which boasts brick-and-mortars at Inman Quarter and The Battery Atlanta, plus a successful corporate events arm (@selectshades)—Jonathan Brimer and Jason Pittenger certainly stay busy. But the biz partners (fun fact: Jonathan is best friends with Jason’s wife, Kristen, and even presided over their wedding) never skimp on style, always flaunting bright colors, fun prints—and, of course, a stellar pair of sunnies.

Jonathan on Jason
“He has a blast being debonair and is able to put together a great outfit better than 90 percent of most guys,” Jonathan says of Jason, who gravitates toward patterned button-ups and polos in pastel hues that accent his tan (“I’m very jealous of it,” Jonathan jokes). Robert Graham and Brooks Brothers are go-tos, as well as performance menswear brand Mizzen & Main, since “most of the time, he wants to be as comfortable as possible,” shares Jonathan.

Jason on Jonathan
“Bold, professional and expressive,” are the words Jason uses to describe his colleague’s personal style, but the same could also be said for Jonathan’s charming personality. The well-dressed Atlantan loves to shop for custom threads at Blank Label and is usually spotted in “colorful bow ties and shades,” Jason shares, or a Ted Baker jacket—his wardrobe secret weapon.

Jenni Lubo (@jenni1300) and Martha Hanson (@martha_hanson) met when they were both coming up in the modeling industry—“Jenni would always say something to make me crack up during the most serious of runway shows,” Martha says—and became fast friends. Ten years later, a GNO with these attractive gal pals still looks the same: “a lot of laughing, good advice, funny flashbacks and cocktails,” says Jenni, who now scouts rising talent as the director of Click Models of Atlanta (@clickatl). Adds Martha, a Realtor for Harry Norman, Realtors: “There will be dancing, great convos—and keep the wine coming!”

Jenni on Martha
Martha is “casual, yet always put together,” Jenni says, adding that the statuesque blonde rocks fitted dresses and heels—with a touch of mascara, her beauty essential—and still looks “effortless.” “She is one of the most grounded people I know,” Jenni continues. “She does not get caught up in the things that don’t matter.”

Martha on Jenni
It’s all about “fun shoes and anything red to go with her hair,” says Martha of her confident and fashionable friend, who frequents shops like Intermix, Etro, alice + olivia and Bloomingdale’s, and whose personal style is “cool and sophisticated, with a pop of something fun or edgy.” That aesthetic suits Jenni’s jet-set lifestyle: This past summer alone, Jenni traveled to Dallas, Los Angeles and New York, with upcoming trips to Amelia Island; Charleston, S.C.; and Mexico also on her calendar.
