“L.A. is my land of opportunity. There is something truly limitless about this city,” says Katie Warner Johnson, co-founder and CEO of luxury activewear brand Carbon38. Having recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, the company offers its own line, plus clothing and accessories sourced from a majority of female-run businesses, and just opened a new store in Palisades Village. While many Angelenos rue the traffic, for Johnson, a former professional ballerina, it’s an inspiration. “Driving east on the 10, listening to classical music, I turn into a visual processor,” she explains. “That’s also how I’ve solved a lot of work and life challenges!” Here, her favorite places in the City of Angels.
“Felix in Venice. Three words: pillows of delight. Thank God I’m not gluten-free!”
“If I could be Elyse Walker I would! She’s also our neighbor at Palisades Village.”
“My favorite spa is Tikkun, a hidden gem in a parking garage in Santa Monica. The scrub with the facial and milk bath is heaven on earth!"
“I love hanging out at Palisades Village, the home of our first store. I nearly ran into Reese Witherspoon the last time I was there.”
“When I first moved to L.A. and wanted to treat myself, I’d go to Dudamel’s Casual Friday with the LA Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall. The combo of classical music in bite-size form and deconstruction architecture can’t be beat.”
