Despite a busy playing schedule taking up more than half the year, family time is sacred for Los Angeles Dodgers star pitcher Clayton Kershaw and his wife Ellen. As denizens of Malibu, the family—which includes two young children—never hesitates to take advantage of their adopted city, especially after Kershaw recently signed a three-year extension. "Our family loves Los Angeles because of the beautiful scenery—you can go hiking and walk on the beach in the same day,” says Ellen. “We’ve found our little community within a great big city, and after ten years of living here, this place is really starting to feel like home. We’re especially grateful to see how L.A. has rallied around Malibu during the heart-breaking fires. Even in a large city like Los Angeles, there is a sense of community & loyalty to one another, especially during times of despair." And although Malibu’s sunsets are famously epic, it’s those from second home Dodger Stadium that really wow, Ellen explains. “Standing on the top deck, you can see a beautiful sunset over the LA skyscrapers, and then a pink sky lights up the palm trees & mountains in the backdrop.” Here, the Kershaws share their favorite family-friendly spots across L.A.
Cup of Jo
“We can’t get enough of Joan’s on Third! It’s kid friendly, has a great atmosphere, and is even the perfect spot for us to go on coffee dates.”
“Our favorite dinner spot in Los Angeles, especially when we have visitors in town, is Perch downtown. The view on the rooftop patio cannot be beat!”
“On our rare off-days away from the stadium, we take our kids to Manhattan Beach to play. It is dreamy at sunset! Our kids love to scooter up and down The Strand.”
“On the weekends, we hit up the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market. We love to buy fresh fruits, veggies and breads.”
“Malibu Farms, on the Malibu Pier, is a gorgeous place to eat, especially the outdoor seating. It’s the most perfect view, with a beautiful breeze.”
“In Malibu, Paradise Cove is a great place to bring the whole family for the day. You really feel like you’re on a vacation.”
