Looking to computer-generated imagery (CGI) and special effects techniques used in filmmaking, the collection is designed to be manipulated.
In this collection, Maisie Wilen continues to show her hyper-digital identity and deeply synthetic aesthetic, aiming to explore technology’s role in providing fluidity to what was previously considered a final product, according to the release.
"Maisie Wilen has always been digital-first, so innovation within tech is a natural progression of the brand. The Spring/Summer 2023 features motion-capture markers applied directly to the garments via print. These small symbols and dots, typically used in filmmaking by special-effects artists, allows the digital process to proceed beyond the development phase and evolve infinitely.
Prints also feature lens flares and exaggerated manipulated faces, representing the surreal, vividly distorted products of the methods referenced. The runway show’s greenscreen set enables further distortion while mimicking the environment of its movie-making inspiration," the release discloses.
This season, Maisie Wilen introduces its first men's collection, a natural evolution of the brand to meet consumer demand.
According to the release, the menswear mirrors the women’s staples – the Perforated Turtleneck, Nebula Trousers, and Muscle Beach Tank, but created for a new audience. Continuing Maisie Wilen’s focus on highly wearable silhouettes that highlight signature prints and textiles, the men’s collection includes a camp shirt, shorts, ties, and sweaters.
Designed to offer more gender-neutral, uni-sex, and size-inclusive pieces, the new men’s styles are offered in women’s sizing and provide loose-fitting options to the Maisie Wilen women – the best of both worlds. Maisie Wilen has always been known for creating clothes that are practical for day-to-day wear, but this season the brand introduces gowns, offering an elegant addition to the brand’s signature playful mini dresses.
