Calling all athletes. Whether you’re a weekend jogger or a triathlon champion, the PoloTech smart shirt is your new must-have garment. Embedded with biometric sensors, it tracks heart rate, breathing depth, energy output and stress levels, and, using the PoloTech app, streams the data directly to your iPhone, iPod or Apple Watch. The information is then used to create adaptive, performance-based video workouts, thus “giving you knowledge you can use to lead a better life,” says David Lauren, executive vice president of global advertising, marketing and corporate communications at Ralph Lauren. Boasting proprietary technology and all-star support (NCAA singles champ Marcos Giron wore prototypes during his practice matches for the 2014 US Open), the smart shirt is a milestone for luxury fashion brands—and a sign of things to come.
