The John Wayne Cancer Foundation saddled up more than $370,000 in donations at its annual Gritty Up kickoff party.
THE PARTY GritCycle’s annual Gritty Up two-day fundraising event was off to a galloping start at its opening night party at Lido House hotel. Cocktails, live music and a rousing auction stirred supporters for the next-day three-hour cycling sessions at GritCycle studios, all to benefit the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. THE SCENE Family members of The Duke himself—like GritCycle co-founder Marisa Wayne and Duke Spirits founder Ethan Wayne—were on hand to welcome guests as cocktails featuring Duke bourbon and tequila were fittingly sipped on the outdoor lawn. Lido House developer Bob Olson also joined in on the fun as guests nibbled on tacos, charcuterie and prime rib. THE HIGHLIGHTS Runaway June, a Country Music Award-nominated band fronted by John Wayne’s granddaughter Jennifer Wayne, had attendees on their feet. Another reason to celebrate? The evening’s $370,000 fundraising total. - Allison Mitchell
