Wishes were granted as the JDRF Dream Gala rang up some $800,000 for diabetes research.
THE PARTY The Dream Gala is a fitting name for JDRF O.C.’s annual fete. A crowd of roughly 400 convened at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel to give nearly $800,000 to Type 1 diabetes research. THE SCENE O.C.’s philanthropists turned out in their black-tie best, including Heather Madden (who sparkled in silver) and incoming gala chair Paula Aragone (who turned heads in navy). After perusing silent auction items, guests took a seat to enjoy filet mignon and Parmesan-crusted halibut among the glow of hundreds of candles. MLB Network’s Brian Kenny commanded the stage for the evening’s programming. THE HIGHLIGHTS For the ladies, a year’s supply of haute heels from Aquazzura at South Coast Plaza enticed during the live auction (led by Randy Parnell), but what also got the crowd on their feet was the recognition of JDRF’s Men on a Mission, a group of seven dapper gents who have tallied more than $300,000 via JDRF’s wine auctions to turn Type 1 into type none. Toastworthy!
