Bay Area Treasure Awards
On October 30th, 2014 San Francisco-based design legend Jonathan Ive will be honored with the SFMOMA's 15th annual Bay Area Treasure Award. The Modern Art Council (MAC) acknowledges artists and creative innovators who have revolutionized and inspired contemporary visual culture. SFMOMA Director Neal Benezra salutes Ive as "our generation's most innovative and influential figure in the field of industrial design," stating, "no other design mind has done more to transform the way we visualize and share information." Previous recipients include eminent filmmaker George Lucas, media artist Jim Campbell, landscape architect Lawrence Halprin and sound artist Bill Fontana to name a few. Ive is currently Apple's Senior Vice President of Design, but also aids and directs Human Interface software teams across the company. The ceremony will be held at the Julia Morgan Ballroom and chaired by MAC member Maria Tenaglia Watson. The evening will include dinner, a presentation of Ive's achievements, and Ive in conversation with SFMOMA Curator of Architecture and Design Jennifer Dunlop Fletcher. Sponsors for the event include San Francisco Ferrari, Paul Smith, and supporting sponsor Wells Fargo. Paul Smith also hosted the preceding Launch party on September 22, 2014 at the Paul Smith clothing store on 50 Geary St., as seen in the pictures below.
