1–0 LucasFilm v. Pixar

George Lucas’s Rango wins an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film.

The quirky for-all-ages film Rango, by Industrial Light and Magic (a division of LucasFilm), wrangled an Oscar last night, while Pixar's Cars 2 didn't even get nominated. What’s more impressive, this is Industrial Light & Magic’s first entirely animated movie.
In July 2011, we broke down what we like to call the Lucas-Pixar rivalry in our story “Clash of the CGI Titans." (Even though they say they're more sister companies than competitors.) Last night’s win adds a point to the scoreboard. Director Gore Verbinski may have been the one to accept the award, but it was LucasFilm’s technical skills that made it possible.
