After FBI Raids Apartment, SF Political Operative Posts Chilling Suicide Note

Updates on the developing story.

San Francisco political operative Ryan Chamberlain posted what appears to be an update to his widely-circulated suicide note this morning. On Facebook, Chamberlain recently posted what the Chron's Demian Bulwa is calling "a second chilling auto-timed Facebook message," that reads as follows:

"A panicked update to my letter that should have posted by now. Nothing they're reporting is true. No 'stashes.' Not 'armed and dangerous.' Nor car 'rigged to explode.' I explored some ugly websites, a year-ish ago. I was depressed. I let Walter White get to me. I thought I was done. That's it. No one was ever in danger. And recently I was all better. I owe my friends and my girlfriend for that. But I guess I did enough for the damage to be done. I'm so sorry everyone..."

The political consultant, who has worked on various San Francisco political campaigns throughout the years, including Gavin Newsom's successful 2003 mayoral bid, had his Polk Street apartment raided by the FBI over the weekend. Federal investigators said on Sunday that Chamberlain was wanted for possession of explosives. His current status and whereabouts are unknown. Earlier in the morning, he posted what appeared to be a suicide note on social media, which read in part, "this is the end of the line for me."

Over at SF Weekly, Joe Eskenazi reviews Chamberlain's record of political work since he moved to San Francisco ten years ago. In addition to his work with Newsom's campaign, Chamberlain had worked with moderate political consultant Alex Clemens on behalf of an airplane pilot's union, and had been field director of moderate interest group SFSOS in 2006.

Update 9:05 p.m. 6/2: The FBI has taken Chamberlain into custody earlier this evening after his car was spotted at Crissy Field, ending the manunt.
