Cirque du Soleil Meets the Bay

Four local talents who made the big top.

Among the swordfish, iguana, and marimba-playing crocodile characters that populate Luzia, Cirque du Soleil’s tribute to Mexico, there’ll also be some friendly, locally born—if heavily costumed—faces.

Devin Henderson
Age: 26, started training at 5.
From: Noe Valley.
Biggest break: With Montreal’s Les 7 Doigts de la Main company.
Coolest backstage trick: Backflip on a rolling skateboard.

Maya Kesselman
Age: 26, started training at 10.
From: San Bruno.
Where she's been: Winning gold at the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain circus competition.
Best career move: Cofounded circus company Back Pocket. Then Cirque du Soleil recruited the whole squad.

Marta Henderson
Age: 24, started training at 5 with brother Devin.
From: Noe Valley.
Got her start: Onstage at 14 with legendary San Francisco clown Joan Mankin.
Least-favorite S.F. tradition: Looking for parking.

Dominic Cruz
Age: 23, started training at 5.
From: Benicia.
Where you've seen him: Diving through hoops at halftime for the Sacramento Kings.
Life motto: “Training is bitter, but success is sweet.”

See Luzia at AT&T Park Nov. 16.
