Like ‘Fargo,’ but with Witches

A new horror send-up comes to IFC.

Janet Varney in Stan Against Evil.

Comedian, actress, and S.F. Sketchfest cofounder Janet Varney is her usual acerbic self, even when she’s up to her eyes in fake blood, in Stan Against Evil (Nov. 2), a campy new horror send-up that’s like a cross between The Evil Dead and The Simpsons.

The show, on IFC, stars John C. McGinley (Scrubs) and Varney (You’re the Worst) as the former and current police constables of a New England town haunted by witches. Varney isn’t the only local connection, either: Producer Dana Gould lived in San Francisco in the late ’80s and helped found the S.F. Comedy Condo, a sort of stand-ups’ commune. For a taste of the humor, check Gould out at the Punch Line November 10–12.
