Four last-minute shows this week

This week concerts are taking it down a notch. Swap out your dancing shoes for something more comfortable and expect more romantic, accordion/piano/guitar combinations.

Tuesday, 5/22
Hey Marseilles
What started as a duo in the dorms of the University of Washington is now a seven-man band making whimsical tunes that sound as if they belong in a music box or, at the very least, on the shores of the Seine in Paris. $12, Brick and Mortar Music Hall, 1710 Mission St., get ticket here

Tuesday, 5/22
Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s
Much like Arcade Fire, Margot has a cinematic quality to their music. The chords carry weight, while the drums and vocals are lithe. Not bad from a band who met in a pet store. $16, Great American Music Hall, 859 O’Farrell St., get tickets here

Wednesday, 5/23
If you remember The Fray from early Grey’s Anatomy days, you now have something with which to compare this indie rock band. Expect ethereal harmonies alongside steady guitar riffs and piano. $12.50, The New Parish, 579 18th St., Oakland, get tickets here

Friday, 5/25
Cass McCombs
This Bay Area native is kicking off the West Coast leg of his tour for his most recent release, Wit’s End. His wispy vocals and dissonant piano chords have made him a favorite on the local music scene. $16, Great American Music Hall, 859 O’Farrell St., get tickets here
