Reem Assil, proprietor of the Arab bakery that bears her name, takes over the old Haven location in Jack London Square, in collaboration with Daniel Patterson’s Alta restaurant group. Assil promises to celebrate the diversity of Arab cuisine: coriander-encrusted fish, shrimp in clay pots, and, of course, man’oushe, the quintessential Arab flatbread, which is the chef’s claim to fame. 44 Webster St. (Near Embarcadero West)

This new fast-casual restaurant from Khalid Mushasha (Black Cat) and chef Telmo Faria (Uma Casa) will focus on Portuguese-style piri piri chicken, available in both spicy and non-spicy versions. 590 Valencia St. (At 17th St.)

FOB Kitchen

ETA: Late spring 2018
This long-running Filipino pop-up now has permanent digs in the former Juhu Beach Club spot in Oakland’s Temescal neighborhood. Menu standards from chef Janice Dulce include lechon kawali, vegetarian and pork lumpia, and whole deep-fried fish. 5179 Telegraph Ave. (At 51st St.)
