James Syhabout Pops Up at Stones Throw with a Lao Feast

For one night only, the Commis chef brings family-style Lao cooking and sommelier-selected wine pairings to Russian Hill.


Wine-paired meals are a dime a dozen. But if you haven’t had a traditional Lao meal with wine pairings selected by a sommelier—well, I suspect you aren’t the only one. That’s what’s on the agenda for a pop-up at Stones Throw at which James Syhabout (Hawker Fare) will be the guest chef, cooking in collaboration with Stones Throw chef Jason Halverson. And Syhabout says that while he suspects some customers will be expecting food in the style of his fine-dining restaurant, Commis, his plan is to serve family-style Lao dishes with wine pairings selected by Commis sommelier Thomas Smith.

The best part is that it’s all for a great cause: The Syhabout event is part of Stones Throw’s Eat Like a Chef, Drink Like a Sommelier charity dinner series. This year, all profits from the dinners will be donated to Meals on Wheels of San Francisco. Reservations are available via the Stones Throw website.

June 26, Seatings between 6 and 8:30 p.m., $60 (plus $50 optional wine pairing)
