This Larkspur Scoop Shop Is Making People Crave Douglas Fir Ice Cream

At Posie, pastry chef Kyle Caporicci combines the quirky with the classic.

Cookies ’n’ cream in a brown butter cone.

If you know anything about the Bay Area, you know that there’s always room for more ice cream, particularly when it’s the kind that marries local and/or organic ingredients with seasonal and/or idiosyncratic flavors.

So it’s little surprise that Posie has been a hit ever since it opened in Larkspur last July: On a typical weekend afternoon, you’ll find kids demanding mint cookie while their parents order Douglas fir with roasted marshmallows—both of which, according to owner Kyle Caporicci, are among the shop’s bestsellers.

A pastry chef whose résumé includes Commis, Taj Campton Place, and Coi, Caporicci pasteurizes his ice cream base onsite and makes all of his toppings and mix-ins, too. His flavors are as appealing as they are inspired: praline pecan-apple, cherry-cognac ginger, the aforementioned Douglas fir, and my favorite on a recent trip, Cookie Monster, a kind of updated cookies ’n’ cream stuffed with about five different kinds of cookies. It was roll-in-the-gutter great, as was its cone, which contained brown butter. Welcome to Larkspur, where life is beautiful.
