Monday at Tacos Oscar Beats Taco Tuesday Any Day

Just don't call it a pop-up.

“People think the word ‘pop-up’ is cheesy,” says Oscar Michel. “So I’ll call it a ‘taco party’ or ‘taco happening.’” Whatever you want to call it, Tacos Oscar—the roving experiment that Michel and business partner Jake Weiss launched in December 2014—is a rousing success. Since its debut at an Oakland recording studio party, it has materialized at coffee shops and restaurants—including Boot & Shoe Service, where Michel and Weiss met as line cooks.

Using revamped recipes from Michel’s Mexican mother and grandmother and pressing their tortillas to order, the pair can be found at Starline Social Club on the second and fourth Mondays of every month. “We’re trying to slowly, organically build something,” says Michel. “But I’d love to have a taco truck in Bolinas and call it quits.”
