The Italian Homemade Company Is Carbo-Loading at Its Finest

The North Beach gluten go-to offers an expanded menu at its new Cow Hollow location.


Two years ago, when Mattia Cosmi moved to San Francisco from Italy, he brought with him an endearingly thick accent and a desire to fatten us on the foods of his native Emilia-Romagna region. So, along with his wife and a business partner, he opened the Italian Homemade Company in North Beach in 2014. It didn’t take long for the shop’s fresh pastas, sauces, and sandwiches to earn such a following that Cosmi branched out to Cow Hollow in late August with a second, bigger location. The expanded menu offers new kinds of sandwiches and pastas, including two varieties of ravioli.
