The just-released Mr. Ken Fulk’s Magical World ($75, Abrams) chronicles the San Francisco–based design guru’s work over the past decade—including the stunning interiors and events that he has conjured for A-list clients, among them Silicon Valley notables (he handled visuals for Sean Parker’s extravagant wedding).

Fulk’s approach to his varied undertakings is “not altogether different,” says the designer. “It’s about creating an experience, whether that experience is meant to showcase great fashion or celebrate a special night or facilitate happier daily rituals. Without really trying, I always seem to start a new project with a vision of a movie clip or a song or a photograph in my mind. From there, the materials and color palette and styles come together rather quickly, both for an event or an interior or a special installation.” Fulk likens his first tome to a personal scrapbook, imparting the story of his business’ evolution as well as his impressive oeuvre.
