For Kristen Carbone, the COO and co-founder of SubRosa Med Spa, the spa experience goes deeper than aesthetic enhancements. SubRosa, which opened earlier this year in the heart of Sandy Springs, proudly offers a sacred space where clients can unlock their inner and outer radiance.
SubRosa’s literal translation is “under the rose,” which symbolizes confidentiality and hidden beauty. Upon entering, clients walk beneath a ceiling lined with rose-printed wallpaper. Each room is also named after mostly female musicians, giving each one a unique personality and feel. One standout is the relaxation room, cheekily named the BeyHive after music icon Beyoncé, where clients can enjoy a mocktail, water or a refreshing hot tea.
“We are always looking for the best things for our patients that they don’t typically see in other spaces,” Carbone says. “My rule when I came up with the aesthetic design of my space was ‘no beige, no blue, no white.’ I have been in a million medspas that look the same, and I wanted a space no one would forget.”
Carbone has nearly 20 years of extensive experience in medical aesthetics, practice management and advanced skincare. Along with the SubRosa team (including Rob Arnold, business director; Rachel Russell, aesthetics director and lead aesthetician; and Cecilie Stegeman, physician assistant and clinical director), she highlights the following who have helped bring her vision to life: Isabella Doherty Lillibell, head of digital marketing; photographer Anna Dower; and designer Candace Parks.
Their services are just as indulgent as the decor: “We carry all of the newest and most innovative aesthetic devices, skincare and injectables out there,” she says. Along with state-of-the-art treatments like microneedling, chemical peels and lasers, SubRosa is also known for its Opus Plasma and TED Hair restoration devices. For 2026, Carbone predicts that “body peels and tightening procedures are just going to get more and more popular with the increase of weight loss drugs,” along with the continual trend of regenerative procedures and biostimulators.
For the SubRosa team, their client dedication is one of their biggest rewards. “I have been in this industry for my entire professional adult life, and it never goes away,” Carbone says, “the feeling of seeing someone change their confidence because you helped them feel good about themselves before their wedding, or going back to school, whatever it may be. I live for making them feel better about themselves.”
