It is no secret that Bayco crafts its jewelry with the most spectacular colored gems the world has ever seen; Bayco has long been recognized for its sensational array of colored stones, and the timeless designs that feature them. Moris and Giacomo Hadjibay, the brothers who founded and run the family company, along with their sons, Marco and Manuel, grew up surrounded by extraordinary gemstones. Bayco showcases these exceptionally rare finds in jewelry whose every attribute is carefully planned to maximize the visual delight sparked by luscious emeralds, fiery rubies and serene sapphires.
Even among the highest echelon of gemstones, differences from mine to mine result in subtle differences of hue. This fact means that matching stones for color is one of the most time-consuming techniques in the jeweler’s toolbox. Bayco’s vast inventory of exquisite colored stones and the Hadjibays’ decades of experience make perfectly matched stones a Bayco signature.
The seeming ease with which Bayco produces bracelets, necklaces and even complete sets, all with gems that seem to have been cut from the same crystal, belies the years of effort and experience that go into placing twinned stones side by side, creating an effect so much greater than the sum of its parts. The Ambrosiana Emeralds, for example, is an astonishing necklace crafted around nine Colombian emeralds, mined between the sixteenth and early nineteenth centuries. To gather nine old-mine emeralds of this caliber in the same piece is all but impossible.
The Hadjibays recut every gem that comes into their possession, seeking the Platonic ideal of each stone. Reconfiguring the stone can improve its color or clarity, thus more than making up for the loss of carat weight that cutting inevitably entails. In addition, when crafting La Vie en Rose, a set of jewelry in which 25 unheated pink sapphires blush with the same tint, the Hadjibays knew the sapphires would be even more enticing with a comparable cut. Collecting the stones one by one over four years, Bayco recut them to identical cushion shapes, underscoring their similarity.

Though colored gems are the stars of the show, they enjoy an excellent supporting cast. Bayco uses white diamonds in every size, shape, cut and configuration to create a frame of light that showcases the rich color, impeccable quality and expert cut of each gem. The jeweler’s commitment to unparalleled luxury is such that the diamonds used in the setting are remarkable gems in their own right. Here, their perfection is sublimated in the service of a higher ideal.
Splendid gems dominate every aspect of the design process at Bayco: from the search for the most desirable color, to the thoughtful consideration of ideal cut and the painstaking setting of luxurious white diamonds. For these ultra-classic designs, everything works in concert to amplify the stunning visual impact of these superb stones, which deserve the treatment that only Bayco can provide.
