THE PARTY The Boys and Girls Clubs of America hosted a celebratory event for the culmination of their nationwide search for the National Youth of the Year. Six finalists attended the event, each vying to be named the 70th Youth of the Year and receive a substantial scholarship to pursue their leadership goals. The gala began with a “Blue Carpet” entrance where host Nick Cannon and presenter Kelly Rowland walked with other VIPs. Occasions Catering provided a decadent menu of filet mignon with potatoes and mushrooms, and served Mickey Mouse shaped mousse dessert in honor of Disney, the event’s sponsor.
THE PEOPLE 630 guests celebrated the talent of the nation’s youth. In addition to the hosts and presenters, Estelle, Wanda Durant and Monique Samuels graced the Blue Carpet. Minority Whip, Congressman Steny Hoyer was also in attendance to be presented with the Herbet Hoover Humanitarian Award.
BEST IN SHOW The winner of the National Youth of the Year award was Carlos Polanco, an inspiring young man who moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic, and has spent his time volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club kindercare program. In addition to his scholarship award, he won a new Toyota Corolla and a trip to Walt Disney World.
