THE PARTY Swank City! Guests gathered at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium for a regal evening of fundraising for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. The third annual Brain Ball, hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter, attracted leaders in business, politics, nonprofit and philanthropy. And nothing brings people together quite like a good cause ($3.1 million was raised) and good food, which included decadent fare like quinoa-stuffed peppers and filet mignon with a truffle shiraz demi-glace catered by Ridgewells.
THE PEOPLE This year’s special guests included national honoree Thomas J. DeRosa, CEO and director of Welltower, Inc.; and regional honoree, Rushern L. Baker III, an executive for Prince George’s County. The star-studded event also featured emcee Rick “Doc” Walker, a local TV personality and former Washington Redskin, as well as guest speaker and Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan. Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw provided entertainment for the 700 galagoers.
BEST IN SHOW Purple rain! The already opulent venue radiated glamour with floor-to-ceiling drapes and uplighting in a shade of purple—the signature color for Alzheimer’s disease awareness.
