Women & Wine filled glasses with fine sips and uncorked support for breast cancer research along the way.
THE PARTY Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center’s 13th annual Women & Wine soiree extended its vines to a record 670 oenophiles this year, gathering Washington’s female leaders at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner to raise funds for research efforts and treatment programs. THE PEOPLE Glasses of vino (such as the 2015 Steven Kent Merrillie Chardonnay and 2016 Root 1 Pinot Noir) were toasted by influential figures such as Sophie Li, Molly Decker, Sherrie Beckstead and Devan Perry, who praised co-chairs Barbara McDuffie of Baker Tilly and Janet Davis of Brandywine Realty Trust for spearheading the latest fete. Also on the menu was a signature watermelon cocktail and light, healthy bites like sesame-crusted tuna with which to pair the sweet nectar. BEST IN SHOW Local personality Hillary Howard served as mistress of ceremonies and presented a special award to survivor and veteran TV news anchor Greta Kreuz—a longtime source of hope for those involved with the event. It all brought in upward of $630,000, with proceeds designated to the institution’s Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research. And that calls for plenty of cheer.
