Bourbon Steak’s hot buttered rum

1. 701 Restaurant
Take a trip south of the border at 701 with a hot and spicy mug of Oaxacan Hot Chocolate. The caliente cocoa is made with Brandy Presidente, Fernet-Vallet liqueur, Oaxacan-spiced hot chocolate and blended with bittersweet chocolate powder, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, star anise, cardamom, brown sugar and nutmeg. It’s coronated with fluffy housemade vanilla marshmallows and grated chocolate for maximum decadence. $12, 701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, 202.393.0701

2. Bourbon Steak
Snuggle up with a friend or your sweetheart at this stylish and modern steakhouse, where you can enjoy a Hot Buttered Rum. The classic winter warmer is made with Mount Gay Black Barrel rum, Myer’s dark rum, vanilla bean, ginger and housemade dulce de leche cream—a perfect combo to create a warm and cozy vibe. $16, 2800 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, 202.944.2026

3. Met Bethesda
Boston-based Met Bethesda is keeping its customers warm with not just one boozy cocoa but an entire Hot Chocolate Experience. Featuring Taza chocolate, the restaurant is offering four chocolate drinks, including classic hot chocolate, Mexican hot chocolate, peppermint hot chocolate and, our favorite, a salted almond hot chocolate. All can be served virgin or spiked. $10-$12, 7101 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda, Md., #3200, 301.767.1900

4. SER
You can really bring the heat with SER’s flaming hot cocktail, the Queimada, or the “fire drink” of Galicia. Mixed with orujo brandy, granulated sugar, lemon rind sliced into strips, whole coffee beans, and then set aflame at your table by SER’s co-owner and resident master mixologist, Javier Candon, this fiery punch cocktail makes the perfect remedy for the winter months. $8, 1110 N Glebe Rd., Arlington, Va., 703.746.9822

5. Urbana
Urbana offers an understated cold weather cocktail with its lovely Winter Rose Tonic. Lead bartender Andrea Tateosian mixes Montenegro amaro, St. Elizabeth’s allspice dram, Hendrick’s gin, grapefruit juice and tonic to produce a wintry option that pairs nicely with the resto’s Italian menu. $13, 2121 P St. NW, 202.956.6650
